Research Campuses Need Secure, Permissioned Sharing
Research campuses need collaboration that shares spatial knowledge with the right people while protecting participants, students, intellectual work, facilities, systems, and institutional responsibilities.
Research collaboration improves when spatial knowledge reaches the people who need it without making sensitive participants, work, systems, or facilities visible by default.

The floor plan was helpful to too many people
A research team shared a laboratory layout to coordinate equipment and visitors. The same file revealed restricted rooms, student work areas, infrastructure, and details unrelated to the recipient’s task.
Collaboration had succeeded by giving everyone the same view. Security and privacy had failed for the same reason.
Access followed purpose
NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 and zero-trust architecture organize access around risk, identity, resources, and continuing verification. Education Department privacy guidance and NIH data-sharing policy add institutional and research responsibilities that depend on context.
Permissioned sharing began with the purpose, audience, duration, and minimum information required—not with the convenience of a universal link.
One campus held several boundaries
Researchers, facilities, safety teams, sponsors, students, vendors, and public visitors could need different spatial evidence. Written agreements, retention, download controls, changes in role, and incident response mattered after the initial invitation.
Accessibility also remained essential: restricting information appropriately could not become an excuse to make necessary content unusable.
The sharing record also needed an end. Project completion, role change, withdrawn consent, expired sponsorship, or revised facility risk could remove access that had once been legitimate. Periodic review prevented a temporary collaboration from becoming permanent visibility.
Spatial knowledge traveled with permission
